Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Bryen & Langley are based in Orpington, Kent and operate within London and the Southeast on new build and refurbishment projects up to £5 million in many sectors including health, education, residential, ecclesiastical, and commercial. We are looking for an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to join our team.
Full training will be provided in the form of a 4-year part-time Quantity Surveying, BSc Hons Degree course at University of Greenwich. This is consists of day release University attendance coupled with working 4-days per week at the Company office in Orpington, assisting qualified Quantity Surveyors, supporting Contract Management.
Further to completion of the degree course, a further 12 months training will be provided so that the applicant attains RICS registration.
This is an excellent opportunity for a prospective Quantity Surveyor who is seeking to work in a modern, busy, construction contractors, running multiple projects at a time and learning via formal training and on-the-job experience.
Overview of Role
▪ Assist Senior Quantity Surveyor managing several projects
▪ Measurement and valuation of works – on site and from drawings
▪ Preparation of interim valuations
▪ Cost Value Reconciliations
▪ Subcontract procurement
▪ Payments, variations and final accounts

A good Apprentice Quantity Surveyor will typically possess a combination of technical skills, personal qualities and professional traits.
· Analytical Skills; a knack for numbers and the ability to analyse complex data.
· Attention to detail; it is crucial in this role to be accurate.
· Maths Aptitude; strong maths skills are essential for performing calculations, budgeting and estimating
quantities accurately.
· Communication Skills; effective communication is necessary to interact with clients, sub-contractors
and team members, as well as to present findings and reports clearly and concisely. A team player is
essential.
· Problem-Solving Abilities; Construction projects often encounter unexpected challenges and a good
Quantity Surveyor should be able to devise solutions efficiently.
· Organisational Skills; must be able to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and priorities effectively,
keeping detailed records and documentation.
· Adaptability; as mentioned, Construction projects change unexpectedly and evolve throughout their
duration. A good Quantity Surveyor should be adaptable and willing to learn new skills and
methodologies.
· A proactive attitude and a commitment to learning; being proactive in identifying potential issues or
improvements can contribute hugely to the success of a project. With the Apprenticeship being a
minimum of 4-years, a commitment to continuous learning must be made and adhered to.
Overall a successful Apprentice Quantity Surveyor would combine some technical knowledge with strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to accuracy and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Quantity Surveying, BSc Hons

This quantity surveying degree apprenticeship teaches you about cost and project management, contract management and law, commercial awareness and ethics in the construction and property industries
Via the course modules, you'll gain practical skills relating to construction technology and sustainability, health and safety and measurement. There is also a final-year project, which is designed to build your skills in research data collection, problem-solving and analysis.
This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. It leads to an end point assessment to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. The course enables you to work alongside studying, so you gain relevant experience in the industry as well as having a degree.
You must be employed full-time in an appropriate apprenticeship role to be eligible for this course.

112 UCAS Tariff points. We accept A Levels, T Levels, BTECs, Access to HE and all other qualifications with UCAS Tariff points.
In addition, you will need: GCSE Mathematics at grade 4/C and GCSE English Language/Literature at grade 4/C. Equivalent qualifications may be considered.
We make Contextual offers to this programme. Applicants that meet specific eligibility criteria will be made a contextual offer with a reduced tariff of up to 16 UCAS Tariff points. Other entry requirements such as GCSEs, Interview, etc., will still need to be met.

The end point assessment to leads to RICS chartered surveyor. Career opportunities exist in many areas of the construction and property industries. These include roles in private practice, with contractors, developers and housing associations, or within central and local government.

Associate Member is available on completion of the associate qualification. You can enrol at any time in your career but must meet one of the following before applying for assessment:
1 year of relevant experience and a relevant bachelor’s degree
2 years of relevant experience and a relevant higher/advanced/foundation qualification
4 years of relevant experience (no qualifications required).
RICS Chartered Membership
Chartered (MRICS)
Chartered Member is available on completion of the chartered qualification. You can enrol at any time in your career but must meet one of the following before applying for assessment:
Relevant experience and an RICS-accredited degree
5 years of relevant experience and any bachelor’s degree
10 years of relevant experience operating at an advanced level by seniority, specialisation, or in academia.
